Career Opportunity: Set-Up I Apprentice, Cold Form

Position Summary

Set up, adjust and operate multi head cold forming machines and auxiliary equipment. Duties and responsibilities include:

• Work cooperatively with other set-up and operating personnel in a team environment.
• Comply with safety guidelines, rules, regulations and procedures. Inspect and use safety devices on all machines and equipment as required.  Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner.
• Communicate to others on the next scheduled work shift, regarding equipment adjustments and special precautions to be observed.
• Operate cold forming machines and auxiliary equipment to perform operations on a diversified product line having close dimension, shape and contour. Measure product using precision gauging and monitor processes using SPC.
• Load and unload die cases. Install tools and auxiliary equipment and adjust to meet required quality and quantity standards. Maintain proper tool revision control. Prepare die packs, punch packs, transfer arms and timing cams.
• Inspect first run parts and check dimensions, shape and contour with necessary precision instruments; complete setup reports and lot audits. Periodically check parts during process run as specified in control plan or other documentation and make required machine adjustments.
• Set and adjust tonnage and acoustic monitors on cold formers, to assure die/machine protection and proper detection of broken tooling.
• Work with Cold Form Setup II's to develop a complete set of cold form setup skills, including but not limited to – wire feed and cut-off, punch and die setting, transfer alignment and timing, measurement of forming progressions, machine controls, reading and following part drawings, manufacturing instructions and control plans.
• Perform weekly machine Preventive Maintenance. Change forming oils and coolants as required.
• Operate lift truck to move and position materials.
• Perform all duties of the Cold Form Operator II, as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• One to two years setup experience or strong mechanical skills
• Familiarity with part and product processing, setups, quality procedures and materials
• Good mechanical comprehension, mathematical and blueprint reading skills
• Ability to communicate verbal and written instructions, and work with operators and other set-up personnel in a team environment
• Ability to perform statistical process plotting and interpret quality plans and instructions
